Aesthetics Unlocked

For practitioners in Wales

Walesregulation, decoded.

Welsh aesthetics regulation runs through Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, not CQC. Wales also runs its own primary-care and prescribing arrangements. If you practise in Wales, particularly if you cross the border into England regularly, as a lot of Welsh practitioners do, you're working with two parallel regulatory environments. Every framework I teach holds up in both, and I flag the divergences explicitly.

Regulators in Wales

What I teach against.

The bodies that set the rules where you practise, and the points I flag in every course because they sit differently in Wales.

  • JCCPJoint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners
  • CPSACosmetic Practice Standards Authority
  • MHRAMedicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency
  • NICENational Institute for Health and Care Excellence
  • ASAAdvertising Standards Authority
  • NMCNursing and Midwifery Council
  • 01

Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW), not CQC, regulates independent healthcare clinics in Wales.

  • 02

Welsh prescribing and Patient Group Direction (PGD) arrangements differ from English NHS arrangements; relevant for any clinic supplying Schedule 4 / Prescription-Only Medicines.

  • 03

MHRA, NMC, JCCP, CPSA, ASA all apply UK-wide.

  • 04

Many Welsh practitioners hold dual registration / dual-jurisdiction practice (Wales + bordering English counties).

Practising in Wales

Where you sit.

  • Practitioner density is concentrated around Cardiff, Swansea, and the M4 corridor.
  • Cross-border practice is common, Welsh clinics often serve patients from neighbouring English counties.
  • The market is smaller than England, which sharpens the case for differentiated positioning rather than competing on price.

Where to start

My recommended path for Wales.

The courses I’d steer you toward first, same content as the rest of the UK, but ordered for what Wales practitioners typically need most.
